Question 1

How do solar panels generate electricity?

Accepted Answer

Solar panels contain photovoltaic cells that convert daylight into direct current (DC) electricity. An inverter converts this into alternating current (AC) for use in your property, with any surplus either stored in a battery or exported to the grid.

Question 2

Do solar panels work during winter?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Panels generate electricity from daylight rather than heat, so they continue to work in winter and on cloudy days — although output is lower than in summer due to shorter days and weaker light.

Question 3

How long can solar panels last?

Accepted Answer

Solar panels are designed for long-term use and commonly operate for many years, with output gradually reducing over time. Manufacturer performance warranties vary, and details are provided with your quotation.

Question 4

Do I need planning permission?

Accepted Answer

Many domestic installations fall within permitted development rights, but exceptions apply — for example listed buildings, conservation areas and some flat roofs. Rules also differ between England, Scotland and Wales. This is checked for your property before installation.

Question 5

Can solar panels reduce electricity bills?

Accepted Answer

Using electricity you generate yourself can reduce the amount you buy from the grid. The level of any saving depends on your system, usage, tariff and property, so we do not guarantee specific savings.

Question 6

What is a solar battery?

Accepted Answer

A solar battery stores electricity — for example surplus generation from your panels during the day — so you can use it later, such as in the evening.

Question 7

Can I add battery storage to existing solar panels?

Accepted Answer

In many cases, yes. Compatibility with your existing inverter and system is assessed first, and an additional or hybrid inverter may be needed.

Question 8

How much battery capacity do I need?

Accepted Answer

The right capacity depends on your electricity usage, generation and goals. A recommendation is made after reviewing your usage during the consultation.

Question 9

Can batteries store cheaper off-peak electricity?

Accepted Answer

Many batteries can be charged from the grid during off-peak periods if you are on a suitable time-of-use tariff. Availability depends on your battery system and energy supplier.

Question 10

Can a battery provide backup power?

Accepted Answer

Some battery systems can provide backup power during a power cut, but this is system-dependent and requires specific equipment and configuration. Not all systems offer it.

Question 11

How does the installation process work?

Accepted Answer

It follows six steps: initial consultation, survey and system design, quotation and approval, installation, testing and commissioning, and handover with aftercare information.

Question 12

Will my property need a survey?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A survey allows us to assess your roof, electrical installation and suitable equipment locations before confirming a design.

Question 13

How long does installation take?

Accepted Answer

Many domestic installations are completed within one to two days once access is in place. Commercial installations vary according to scale.

Question 14

What documentation is provided?

Accepted Answer

Relevant certification and handover documentation is provided on completion. The specific documents depend on the system installed and will be confirmed with your quotation.

Question 15

What is covered by the 12-year solar warranty?

Accepted Answer

Solar PV installations come with a 12-year warranty. Full coverage details are provided as part of your quotation — please request the warranty documentation for specific terms.

Question 16

What is covered by the 12-year battery warranty?

Accepted Answer

Battery storage installations come with a 12-year warranty. Full coverage details are provided as part of your quotation — please request the warranty documentation for specific terms.

Question 17

How do customers make a warranty claim?

Accepted Answer

Please contact us with your installation details and a description of the issue. The warranty process will be explained in your handover documentation.
